Sexy Super Bowl Commercials Cause Controversy

The NFL already had to apologize for M.I.A's inappropriate gesture at the Super Bowl Halftime Show, but that isn't the only thing that had parents group up in anger. This year's commercials during the Super Bowl seemed to be "more racy and sexual than ever" according to The Parents Television Council. Some of the more sexy and racy commercials were the Teleflora ad promising that your girlfriend will do anything you want if you order her some flowers, a Toyota Camry ad featuring a couch made up of a bunch of models dressed up in lingerie, as well as a Fiat commercial where a model seduces a man on the street while she has foam from a drink dripping down her chest. Although it wasn't just the women baring it all. In the Camry ad, there were several men in speedos being used as seating, as well as the H&M ad which had a topless David Beckham showing it all off wearing only a tight pair of small underwear. However, the second most popular commercial during the Super Bowl was the shirtless Beckham commercial according to the Brand Bowl 2012. Many people have commented on this years commercials in negative ways such as: "There were many spots that parents will be offended by. The Super Bowl is such a big deal because it is regarded as a family event." and "The NFL and their broadcast partners are running a serious risk here with their brand. At some point they are going to lose the cachet of the Super Bowl being appropriate for families."

  1. “I find the whole concept of being ‘sexy’ embarrassing and confusing. If I do an interview with photographs people desperately want to change me - dye my hair blonder, pluck my eyebrows, give me a fringe. Then there’s the choice of clothes. I know everyone wants a picture of me in a mini-skirt. But that’s not me. I feel uncomfortable. I’d never go out in a mini-skirt. It’s nothing to do with protecting the Hermione image. I wouldn’t do that. Personally, I don’t actually think it’s even that sexy. What’s sexy about saying, ‘I’m here with my boobs out and a short skirt, have a look at everything I’ve got?’ My idea of sexy is that less is more. The less you reveal the more people can wonder.”
